Planetary gear set, also known as planetary gearbox or planetary reducer, mainly achieves its function by changing the transmission ratio and transmission direction. It consists of a central wheel (sun gear), a ring gear, a planetary carrier, and planetary gears. The relative motion relationship of each component in the planetary gear mechanism is changed through the operation of the clutch and brake, thereby achieving transmission in different gears and changing the transmission ratio. The main function of planetary gear sets is to reduce input speed, output low speed while increasing torque, achieving the desired transmission effect. In automatic transmissions, planetary gear mechanisms also play a role in changing transmission ratios and directions. By carefully designing the configuration of the sun gear, outer ring gear, and planetary carrier, efficient power transmission and optimized vehicle performance are achieved
Planetary gears also play a significant role in the torque transmission of the engine. Due to the significant differences between the engine's speed, torque, and other characteristics and road driving requirements, it is necessary to allocate the engine's power appropriately to the driving wheels by utilizing the aforementioned characteristics of planetary gears for conversion. The automatic transmission in cars also utilizes the characteristics of planetary gears to change the relative motion relationship of various components through clutches and brakes to obtain different transmission ratios.
However, due to the complex structure and working state of planetary gears, their vibration and noise problems are also prominent, which can easily lead to failure phenomena such as tooth fatigue pitting, tooth root cracks, and even tooth or shaft fractures, thereby affecting the operating accuracy, transmission efficiency, and service life of the equipment.
