Lathing
In ordinary turning, gear blanks are usually clamped on vertical or horizontal turning machines. For automatic clamping fixtures, the vast majority do not require the installation of auxiliary stabilizing devices on the other side of the spindle.

Hobbing
Process gears according to the principle of the generation method. Hobbing machining is suitable for machining straight teeth, helical teeth, cylindrical gears, and worm gears, but cannot process internal gears, sector gears, and closely spaced multiple gears. Due to the use of the generative method in gear hobbing, a hob can process gears with different tooth numbers that have the same modulus and tooth shape angle. Hobbing is a continuous cutting process with no idle travel, and can be improved by using a multi head hob. So the productivity of gear hobbing is generally higher than that of gear slotting.

Shaping
Using a gear shaper to machine the tooth surfaces of internal, external gears, or racks using the generative or forming method is called gear shaper. Gear shaping can process both straight and oblique teeth; Hobbing can also process straight and helical teeth, but the efficiency of hobbing is higher. When cutting gears with larger modules, the gear shaping speed is constrained by the inertia of the reciprocating motion of the gear shaping cutter spindle and the rigidity of the machine tool; The cutting process also has a time loss of idle travel, so the productivity is not as high as that of gear hobbing. Only when machining gears with small modulus, multiple teeth, and narrow tooth width, can the productivity of gear shaping be higher than that of gear hobbing.

Shaving
1. The machining accuracy of gear shaving is generally 6-7 levels, and the surface roughness Ra is 0.8-0.4 μ m. Used for precision machining of unhardened gears.
2. The productivity of gear shaving processing is high. Generally, it only takes 2-4 minutes to process a medium-sized gear, which can increase the productivity by more than 10 times compared to gear grinding.
3. Due to the free meshing of gear shaving processing and the lack of generative motion transmission chain in the machine , the machine has a simple structure and is easy to adjust

Grinding
The process of grinding the teeth of gears using a gear grinding machine is called gear grinding. Divided into internal tooth grinding and external tooth grinding of cylindrical gears; Grinding of internal and external teeth of cylindrical helical gears, as well as grinding of bevel gears. Gear grinding machine is a metal cutting machine tool used for gear precision machining. Using a grinding wheel as a tool to grind the machined gear tooth surface to improve gear accuracy and surface finish is called "grinding teeth". Suitable for precision machining of steel gears with higher hardness after quenching. It is a metal cutting machine tool used for gear precision machining.
