What Are Precision Gears?

1, The concept of precision gear grade

Precision gear grade refers to the accuracy of gears, which includes the performance of tooth profile error, eccentricity, axial clearance, and other aspects. Gears of different grades have different precision and load capacity, suitable for different fields and requirements.

2, Standard for Precision Gear Grades

The main precision gear grade standards currently used internationally are AGMA (American Society of Mechanical Engineers), ISO, and JIS (Japanese Industrial Standards). Below are the classification levels for these three standards.

① AGMA level

AGMA grade is one of the most widely used precision gear grade standards, which divides precision gear grades into 11 grades including AGMA 15, AGMA 14, AGMA 13, AGMA 12, AGMA 11, AGMA 10, AGMA 9, AGMA 8, AGMA 7, AGMA 6, AGMA 5, etc. Among them, AGMA 15 grade gears have the highest precision and can meet the requirements of high-precision applications, such as precision instruments, spacecraft, etc; However, AGMA 5 grade gears have relatively low precision and are mainly used for applications that do not require high precision, such as general mechanical transmissions.

② ISO grade

ISO grade is a precision gear grade standard developed by the International Organization for Standardization, which divides precision gear grades into nine levels: ISO 4, ISO 5, ISO 6, ISO 7, ISO 8, ISO 9, ISO 10, ISO 11, ISO 12, etc. Among them, ISO 4 grade gears have the highest precision and are mostly used in high-precision machine tools and aerospace instruments; However, ISO 12 grade gears have relatively low precision and are often used for applications that require low precision.

③ JIS grade

JIS grade is a precision gear grade standard established by Japanese industrial standards, which divides precision gear grades into 11 grades including JIS 0, JIS 1, JIS 2, JIS 3, JIS 4, JIS 5, JIS 6, JIS 7, JIS 8, JIS 9, JIS 10, etc. Among them, JIS 0 grade gears have the highest precision and can meet the requirements of high-precision applications; The gear accuracy of JIS 10 grade is relatively low and is mostly used for low precision applications.
