⚙️ The core cause of rust in sintered steel
Sintered steel is a metal material made by powder pressing and sintering. Its microstructure contains a large number of small pores, which is the key to its susceptibility to rusting .
Pores accumulate dirt and grime: Moisture, dust, and corrosive gases in the air can easily penetrate the pores, creating a humid corrosive environment and creating conditions for oxidation reactions.
The composition is not pure steel: most sintered steels add alloying elements such as copper and nickel, but still retain the basic properties of iron. When iron comes into contact with water and oxygen, it undergoes electrochemical corrosion and forms rust.
Surface non dense: Compared with dense steel produced by rolling and forging, the pores on the surface of sintered steel make it easier for rust to spread from the surface to the interior.

Oil immersion treatment: Soaking sintered steel in rust proof oil to fill the pores with oil, isolate air and moisture, commonly used in parts such as bearings and gears.
Surface coating: A protective layer is formed by covering the surface with corrosion-resistant metals such as zinc, chromium, nickel, etc. through processes such as electroplating and phosphating.
Vacuum carburizing/nitriding: Changing the chemical composition of the surface layer to improve surface hardness and corrosion resistance, suitable for parts with requirements for strength and rust prevention.
Spray painting or spray coating: Applying organic coating on the surface to completely isolate external corrosive media. This method is commonly used for parts with high appearance requirements.

📌 Daily rust prevention tips
If it is a small sintered steel part, attention should be paid to daily storage:
• Keep in a dry and ventilated environment, avoiding contact with humid air and acidic or alkaline liquids;
• Long term storage can be wrapped in rust proof paper or coated with a small amount of rust proof grease.
