The powder metallurgy method for manufacturing gears is a technique that uses metal powder to manufacture gears through pressing and sintering processes. The powder metallurgy process includes the following basic steps: 1. Powder production: Raw materials are made into powder, and commonly used powder production methods include oxide reduction method and mechanical method. 2. Mixing: Mix various required powders in proportion and homogenize them into a green powder 1. 3. Pressing: Pour the mixed powder into the mold and press it into shape using a press machine. 4. Sintering: The pressed billet is sintered at high temperature to fuse the powder particles together to form a dense gear. 5. Post treatment: Surface treatment such as sandblasting, carburizing, etc. should be carried out as needed to improve the hardness and strength of the gear

Advantage:

 

1. Generally, there are fewer manufacturing processes for powder metallurgy gears.

Disadvantage:


1. Batch production is necessary. Generally speaking, a batch of 5000 or more pieces is more suitable for powder metallurgy production;

2. The size is limited by the compression capacity of the press. Press machines generally have a pressure of several tons to several hundred tons, and can be made into powder metallurgy with a diameter of basically 110mm or less;

3. Powder metallurgy gears are limited by their structure. Due to compression and mold limitations, it is generally not suitable to produce worm gears, herringbone gears, and helical gears with a helix angle greater than 35 °. It is generally recommended to design the helical teeth within 15 degrees for helical gears;

4. The thickness of powder metallurgy gears is limited. The depth of the mold cavity and the stroke of the press must be 2-2.5 times the thickness of the gear. At the same time, considering the uniformity of the longitudinal density of the gear height, the thickness of the powder metallurgy gear is also very important
